Five catastrophic consequences of small excavator rollover

Post by DIG-DOG »

Reason 1: Holding the door frame when going downhill

Everyone knows that the excavator has super off-road capabilities. With the cooperation of crawler tracks and working devices, the excavator can climb very steep slopes and can also go downhill easily. There is a dangerous situation that is easily overlooked by everyone. When the excavator is going downhill or unloading a trailer, due to the forward tilt of the fuselage, many drivers will habitually push on the front windshield or door frame with their left hand and operate the excavator with their right hand. At this time, if the door is open and not locked, the door will close quickly due to gravity, usually with great force. If you hold your hand on the door frame, you will be pinched. The consequences are very serious.

Therefore, when the excavator is working, the door of the excavator cab is locked when closed and locked when opened. Whether the door is open or closed, it must be locked. The driver should try not to hold the door frame with his hand.

2. Raise your arms when walking

Many novices or apprentices think that if you raise the boom of the excavator to the highest position, fully open the dipper, and point the bucket to the sky, you will have a better view when walking. If you do this, it will be cool to rotate while walking. In fact, walking like this is very dangerous. Because the working device is raised high, the center of gravity is high, and the vehicle will overturn if the ground is slightly uneven.

So you must not be cool when walking and working. The most important thing is to keep an eye on the road under your feet.

3. Driving on soft ground

When the excavator is working on soft ground such as swamps and river beaches, you should first use the bucket to test whether the ground can bear the weight of the excavator. If you forget this process, there may be serious consequences, unless you are driving an amphibious excavator. Although the excavator is a crawler design with a large contact area with the ground, it is not uncommon for the excavator to get stuck in the mud! Just pay attention to this and it can be avoided. When working on soft ground such as swamps and river beaches, you should pay attention to the following to avoid the excavator from getting stuck:

1. Try with the bucket first.

2. Do not stay in the same place for a long time.

3. Go straight more and turn less.

If the excavator gets stuck in the mud, don't worry. Never try to climb out by climbing a slope, as it will only get deeper and deeper. There are many ways to rescue:

1. If it is not very deep, hollow out the middle of the two tracks and try again.

2. If you still can't get out, try how deep the mud is. If it is not very deep, just dig out the mud in front, make a way for yourself, and slowly approach the hard ground on the shore.

3. If the mud is infinitely deep, you can rent a few iron plates or roadbed plates, press them horizontally under the tracks, and you can easily get out of trouble.

4. Blind spot

The cab of the excavator is on the left, and the passive arm in the middle blocks the view, so there is a large blind spot on the right side, especially the rear right side. Many excavator accidents are caused by the right side of the tail rotating and hitting or killing people! So when working in a site that is not very wide, the excavator should stay as far to the left as possible to leave more space on the right side.

The rearview mirror on the excavator is a very fragile thing. It often falls off during work or transportation. Many drivers think that it doesn't matter if it is touched, so they don't replace the rearview mirror in time. In fact, the rearview mirror on the excavator is very important, especially the right one. Accidents often occur due to poor safety awareness!

5. Riding on the ditch

When the excavator is digging a ditch, if the construction worker tells you that the height of the front section is wrong and asks you to ride on the ditch to dig again, you must not listen to him. No matter what the geological conditions are, you can only drive back half the distance of the crawler at most. It is unsafe to drive more and there is a risk of landslide. The construction worker may tell you that it's okay to come a little further. Don't listen to him, because he cares more about the ditch than your safety. A qualified driver should have his own independent thinking and safety awareness, which is the basic professional ethics.

So when digging a ditch, you must get it in place at one time and don't go back to dig again. If you are not sure, let the construction worker measure a few points. If he doesn't measure, then you dig slowly and get off the car and walk to the bottom of the ditch to see the slope. If you have to go back and dig a long distance, you must backfill the trench first, which is troublesome but safe!
