How to transport excavators safely

Post by BONOVO »

● Loading and unloading of excavators is dangerous work, so be especially careful. When loading and unloading excavators, run the generator at a low speed and walk slowly.

● Make sure the ramp is wide, long and thick enough to allow the excavator to drive up and down safely. If the ramp is obviously bent and collapsed, use pads to strengthen it.

● When loading and unloading excavators, park the trailer on a flat and solid road surface and keep a reasonable distance between the excavator and the shoulder.

● Clear the mud on the lower walking body to prevent the excavator from sliding on the slope.

● Make sure to keep the ramp surface clean and free of grease, oil, ice and loose objects.

● It is forbidden to change the direction of the excavator on the ramp. If you need to change direction, drive down the ramp and correct the direction, then drive up the ramp

● When the excavator turns on the trailer, the footing of the excavator is unstable, so these actions should be performed slowly

● Regardless of whether the cab door is closed or open, always check whether the door lock is buckled

● Do not open or close the cab door on the platform or ramp, which may cause a sudden change in the operating force

● When loading and unloading, generally use a ramp or platform and operate as follows

● Brake the trailer correctly and put pads under the tires to ensure that the trailer does not move, then fix the ramp between the trailer and the center of the excavator, making sure that the ramps on both sides are on the same plane, the maximum ramp angle does not exceed 15°, and the distance between the ramps matches the center distance of the tires

● Align the excavator with the ramp, try to lower the working device without letting it hit the trailer, then drive slowly, drive up or down the excavator, and on the slope, do not operate any other joysticks except the travel joystick. Park the excavator correctly at the top position on the trailer

2. Safety measures for loading

After the excavator is loaded to the designated position, the excavator should be fixed as follows

● Lower the bulldozer

● Extend the bucket and arm cylinders completely and slowly lower the boom

● Turn off the engine and release the key from the start switch

● When transporting the excavator. Place wooden blocks under the front and rear tires to prevent the excavator from moving, and tie the excavator with ropes or chains. Pay special attention to ensure that the excavator does not slide sideways. Place wooden blocks under one end of the bucket cylinder to prevent it from hitting the vehicle body, which can also prevent possible damage to it

● Keep the safety multi-locking device in the locked state

● Lock the cab, battery box cover and generator cover

● Put away the rearview mirror to prevent damage

3. Methods for hoisting the excavator

● If there are people on the excavator, the excavator cannot be hoisted. Make sure that the steel rope used to hook the excavator is strong enough to withstand the weight of the excavator. Only when the excavator is adjusted to the following posture can it be lifted, otherwise the vehicle body may lose balance. Never rotate the upper slewing body when lifting the excavator. When lifting the excavator, pay attention to the center of gravity of the excavator must be kept balanced.

● When lifting the excavator, operate on a flat ground according to the following procedures

● Start the engine, then rotate the upper slewing body so that the working device will reach the ground

● Put the steel rope on the front and rear axles of the excavator

● Adjust the lifting angle of the steel rope to 30-40°, and then slowly lift the excavator

● After the excavator leaves the ground, stop first, let the excavator stop steadily, and then slowly lift it

● Stop the engine and check the area around the cab. There should be no objects. Then leave the excavator and close the cab door and windshield
